Heidelberg is located in Lanesburgh Township within Le Sueur County, Minnesota. In the late 1850's, Frank Heil and Frederick Ihrig arrived from Germany and settled in the area. It was in honor of their homeland that they chose the name Heidelberg for our community.
Over the next 20 years a town was founded complete with a general store, shoe shop, blacksmith and also a United State Post office, founded in 1867.
See more of the timeline of our community and read up on the Era of Progress, written for the community during the bicentennial celebration in 1976.
